Lakefront IPA
By
Milwaukee, WI is almost synonymous with beer, so I’ve been looking forward to trying the products of the Milwaukee’s Lakefront Brewery.
Could there be a better way to start than with Lakefront’s IPA?
Lakefront IPA has a kind of cyclops logo, with a thick letter “I” upon which an eyeball is superimposed, quite similar in style to the pyramid on the reverse of the US dollar. There’s little else on the label to suggest more about the beer.
Ah, but so often it is what’s inside that counts.
I lifted the cap on this 12 oz bottle, and poured the hazy, golden beer into a pint glass. It produced a huge head with a citrus and tea-like hop aroma.
My first taste let me know this would be a mellow IPA. It has a creamy mouthfeel and a biscuity taste. Hops are present but quiet with a backdrop of grapefruit pith, an easy bitterness and a short finish.
Hop heads seeking a bitter blast will be disappointed, but those looking for an easy-drinking IPA will be quite pleased. I was of a mind for a mellow beer, so this hit the spot nicely — and it had a 7% ABV, too.
But I was simply lucky — there is no description on the bottle that might tell me anything about this IPA, and had I looked for a description on the Lakefront website (I didn’t), I wouldn’t have found any helpful details.
What I would have found was a list of food pairings and a recipe for IPA Donuts.
Go figure. Or better yet, go drink a bottle and let me know what you think.
