As of today, I have over 60 different beers in my inventory. Most of them are taking up counter space — I need to find a better place to store these before I incur the wrath of my loving wife…

My Inventory So Far

I’ll write more about how I’ve been acquiring my inventory. In fact, I’ll be posting the entire list online soon.

I am anxious to hear about all the damage this collection will cause.

So as long as you get a “Beer a day,” it doesn’t matter what size of beer, ey? I see a 22 or two in your collection.

I’ve decided that 22 ounces will be as large a beer as I can drink. If I get a 750ml bottle, then I have to share it — can’t drink that alone and still consider it one beer.

i got an interesting beer for Christmas, 12 Dogs of Christmas Ale, made with honey and spices, and 8.4% ABV. I was wary about the last part, but they pull it off. Father-in-Law brought a 6-pack over for Christmas. If you’re going to be in Indiana any time soon, I can save you one.

Winter and Christmas ales are almost an acquired taste, because of the spices. I have two bottles of a Christmas ale in my fridge from December — one for me, one for someone else. It’s an ESB and not a terribly spice laden brew. One the other hand, I have several bottles of Harpoon Winter Warmer — another acquired taste because of very STRONG spices — which I love. I thought I was going to drink all of my Harpoon Winter Warmer before this challenge began — I think I still have about 5 bottles left.

Posting my travel schedule might be a good idea. I’d love to meet up with readers and share beer — when I plan travel, I’ll announce it in advance. I don’t think I’ll be in Indiana anytime in the near future, but I have a trip to NYC coming up later this week if any New Yorkers are listening… :-)

While you’re traveling about see if you can find BJ’s Brewhouse (www.bjsbrewhouse.com). I know there’s one in Greenwood, Indiana but they’re in several other states, too. They have 7 beers always on draught, and they are stupendous, and a seasonal that lends a nice surprise every now and again.
Also, check out a Flying Saucer (www.beerknurd.com for locations) if you haven’t. They have these great dish-covered walls and over a hundred beers on draught and, I’m sure you know, any real brewery has a beer sampler…that’s perhaps 22 ounces TOTAL, so…any thoughts on that? Still cheating?

Good suggestions — in fact, you have me thinking I should create a discussion forum so readers can share their favorite brewpubs or brands. Give me a few days and I’ll work that up.
